Summer art course in the Norwegian mountains

28 July - 1 August 2008

At this 4 day painting course, participants will draw and paint the rough and breathtaking landscape along the steep slopes of Fjord-Norway. Teacher Jan van Boeckel, himself a landscape painter, will facilitate a form of painting which he calls "wild painting", connecting with nature in new and exciting ways, in an effort to see the world around us with fresh eyes. All participants will get personal instructions and feedback, in either English of Swedish. This course includes delicious organic food, sometimes at the farm, sometimes "in the field".

Dispersed between lake Breimsvatnet and the high mountains there are several goat farms. Skarstein Gård used to be an ecological goat farm, and it has a productive herb garden. The quiet surroundings contribute to experiencing the slow rhythm of the change of seasons. Organic (and also vegetarian) meals are served, prepared with tasteful herbs from the garden. Delicious bread, baked in woodstove, is available. Astrid offers to give instructions in preparing food with use of herbs and in making bread the traditional way. Vegetables, herbs, goatskin clothes are for sale.

From Skarstein Gård one can make exciting mountain hiking tours. The farm is nestled on steep slopes leading down to the beach of Breimsvatnet, with good opportunities for trout fishing and swimming. A row-boat is available and cycles are for rent at the farm. In the vicinity one can arrange horseback riding on Fjord horses.
